The European Southern Observatory (often just called ESO) makes some of the world’s most powerful telescopes, including the Very Large Telescope and the upcoming Extremely Large Telescope. The telescopes are placed on mountains in the very dry and isolated Atacama Desert in Chile. From here, they have a beautifully clear view of the night sky, allowing them to explore the Universe in amazing detail and discover all kinds of new things!
